  1. Okay, I am very serious about my hot chocolate, and darling Neal is indeed wrong. Hot chocolate is made with milk! What is this “hot chocolate milk” that he is even talking about? I doubt a stranger from the internet is going to win him over, but it is definitely made with milk. I think that the mixes you’d buy from the grocery store, like Swiss Miss, have powdered milk in them so you’re not supposed to have to use milk–maybe this is what he is thinking of?–but those are STILL better made with milk!

I also highly recommend adding a little sprinkle of cinnamon when you are adding your cocoa powder or mix (if there isn’t some in the mix already). I’ll also sometimes add a little vanilla extract, or almond or orange extract, or a little candy cane, depending on my mood.

In addition, over the holidays I made whipped cream, spread it about 3/4″ thick on a pan over tin foil (parchment paper might have worked better) and froze it, then cut out shapes with cookie cutters. Then I kept the frozen cream hearts in the freezer to top my hot chocolate like a super fancy person. Or, if you have a little milk frother wand that people get for making fancy coffee drinks at home, it’s also nice to foam up your cocoa a little bit. I am so excited y’all are enjoying hot chocolate! (You can enjoy yours with a side of being right, and Neal can enjoy his with a side of being wrong…)

    1. I am wowed by your hot chocolate making! I had never heard of making frozen whip-creamed shapes… It is clear that I need to up my game.

And of course, I love having people agree that I am right. 😉 -S
